There are two honest modes. Fetch mode is one prompt, one answer, perfect for facts, formats, and quick transforms. Build mode is a chain, the right shape when the goal is to understand, decide, or create.
Most people run fetch mode by default, even when the situation is a build. Fetching feels fast; building feels slow. The invisible cost is the understanding you never gained.
A good chain is the earlier skills performed as one conversation: probe the fluent surface, pull on the citations, surface the standpoint, refuse the borrowed verdict, expand then contract. The last link is always yours, in your own words.
In build mode, each answer is not the finish line, it is the raw material for your next question.
